Dear Supporter,

If you are receiving this email, you are uniquely positioned to influence an important vote that could place tens of thousands of wild horses at risk of brutal slaughter.

Your Representative is on the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, which will hold a “markup” hearing on the 2017 Interior Appropriations Bill tomorrow (Wednesday, June 15).

It is likely that an amendment to the bill will be offered to allow for the transfer of wild horses and burros to state, federal, or local agencies for use as work animals. Wild horses and burros transferred in this manner would immediately lose their protected status and would be in grave danger of being sent to slaughter.

The amendment could create a back door route to slaughter, not only for the 48,000 wild horses currently warehoused in holding facilities, but also for the 40,000 wild horses and burros on the range that BLM considers to be “excess.”

This is the most serious threat to mustangs in over a decade...please take action RIGHT NOW to ask your Representative to oppose any measure that would open the door to slaughter of America's cherished wild horses and burros.

Thank you!

-The AWHPC Team

P.S. Our wild horses and burros need you to do this for them, and they need you now, so please don't delay!
