Dear Supporter,

Urge Forest Service & BLM to Protect Las Vegas Area's Last Remaining Wild Horses & Burros

The U.S. Forest Service (FS) is accepting public comments during a scoping period for a management plan for the Spring Mountain Wild Horse and Burro Complex near Las Vegas, which is managed jointly by the FS and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The plan would set unnaturally low Allowable Management Levels (AMLs)  -- one horse or burro per 2,400+ acres of land -- as well as result in the removal of as many as 900 or more of these iconic animals from their homes on the range. Now is the time to urge the FS to change course and work with the excellent Spring Mountain Alliance to humanely manage these horses and burros on the range in this area that holds great potential as a major ecotourism destination. Please take easy action today!

Tell BLM: Cancel Plans to Remove Wild Horses from Famed Little Book Cliffs Herd

The BLM in Colorado is seeking public comments on a proposal to remove up to 50 of the estimated 155 wild horses (plus this year's foals) from the well-known Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Range. The BLM has scheduled the roundup to take place in August or September 2013. The fact that the BLM is proposing to remove any horses at all from this range is testimony to the failure of the agency to properly implement an effective PZP fertility control program. Please take one moment to tell the BLM that now is the time to implement the National Academies' recommendations in the Little Book Cliffs by cancelling all plans to remove horses and managing these beloved mustangs humanely on the range as science and the public demands.

CBS Radio News Investigation of Horse Slaughter: Willie Nelson Speaks Up for America's Horses!

This week, CBS News aired a hard-hitting, two-part series on horse slaughter. The eight-month investigation by journalist August Skamenca exposes the shadowy practice of slaughtering U.S. horses in Mexico and Canada and examines the impacts of killing an estimated 150,000 American horses each year in this cruel manner in order to supply foreign markets with horsemeat. The piece includes an interview with country music legend Willie Nelson and his daughter, both strong and passionate advocates for horses both domestic and wild. Please listen to this important piece and share.
